Dear Friends in Christ,
February already? It
seems like New Years Eve was just yesterday.
2012 is shaping up to go by as quickly as all the years do.
Time matters.
Someone has said: “Today
is the oldest you’ve ever been, yet the youngest you’ll ever be, so
enjoy this day while it lasts.”
We should also focus on the possibilities of this day God has
given us. All of us have
untold possibilities locked inside us.
The important thing is not to let negative thinking get in
our way.
A teacher learned this one day when he asked his class of
third-graders what they wanted to be when they were grown up.
The responses echoed throughout the room:
“football player” said one boy.
A doctor” said a girl.
“An astronaut” said another.
“The President” said several.
The teacher noticed one child sitting still and listening
silently. “Tommy” he
asked. “What would you
like to be when you grow up?”
Tommy thought for a long time.
Finally he answered with just one word: “Possible.”
“Possible” repeated the teacher.
“Yes” said the boy.
“My mom is always telling me I’m impossible.
So when I get to be big, I want to be possible.”
Individually and as a church family we can accomplish so much
if we focus on the possibilities and not on our challenges.
The world may tell “it is impossible.”
But we know: “With God, All things are Possible.”
(Matthew 19:26).
This month we begin another important and Holy Season in the
Church..The Season of Lent.
Ash Wednesday is February 22nd.
Please join us in worship at 7pm for a service of Song,
Ashes, Prayer and Communion.
Wednesdays beginning February 29th and going
through April 4th we will gather in Bethel Chapel at 7am
for Prayer and Communion.
February 25th is the first United Methodist Men’s
Lenten Prayer Breakfast.
That evening we will host the Watoto African Children’s Choir.
The concert will be held at 6pm in the Sanctuary.
This concert will be a real blessing.
You will meet children who have lost so much in life but who
live with grateful, loving hearts.
A busy month ahead.
Please be faithful in supporting our church.
In Christ,
Rick Calhoun
